5W is the optimal balance for desktop size, cost, and high-precision engraving.
UV lasers have a short wavelength and high-energy photons, which directly break molecular bonds with very little heat. This “cold processing” delivers much higher energy density and precision than traditional heat-based lasers.
That’s why 5W is considered the golden power level for desktop UV systems. Even for demanding tasks like 3D engraving inside glass, the F2 Ultra UV typically uses only around 60% of its power—leaving plenty of performance headroom.

Inner engraving and surface engraving require different lenses. This pre-calibrated pack lets you switch modes easily and accurately.
Absolutely not. Please note that F2 Ultra UV and F2 Ultra are not the same machine. They use different light sources and different interfaces, so their field lenses are not interchangeable.

Our laser journey started with an M1 Ultra, then the F2 to add IR capability. But we kept looking at the F2 Ultra UV as being the pinnacle and eventually had enough funds to get one.
The precision of the UV cannot be overstated! From being able to do text on Metal Business cards down to 0.5mm tall and even a 4mm QR code that works with Macro on a smartphone the detail it can give engravings etc. is amazing. It almost defies the mind when you see things like cold lasering where you can mark Plastics without burning them. The control is exact and very easy to get the desired results, either from the vast materials library with most materials already tested for you and optimum settings available at the click of a mouse. And those that are not, the test array feature enables you to quickly work out what settings work best and not spend ages searching the internet for advice.
I thought 5W UV would be underpowered, but the beam is so tiny (0.02*0.02 mm) that the power is adequate, and as you go up, you go from pigment bleaching to microfoaming to charring, melting and then ablation. This is why it can bleach plastics or microfoam the surface to provide contrast in marking without warping from intense heat. And on wood it can not only char to mark, it can also turn it to dust without charring (ablation). The only thing it can't do that other lasers can is cut metal.

I have found a niche market in marking things for identification. Being able to mark car key remotes or prescription glasses frames with a name and phone number to aid recovery when lost/misplaced is very popular. A conventional laser would burn the plastic or produce unreadable text. On even the thinnest frames (metal or plastic) I'm able to write this in 3mm tall text that is very legible without any melting or weakening from ablation.
Another unique feature is the inner engraving in crystal. The detail is astounding!

From setup to running, I successfully engraved glass on the first try. Great toturials, Xtool Sudio is easy to use and master. The R3 is very easy to set up and use. Looking forward to learning the 3D option this machine provides. If you are after a UV laser to engrave, I Highly recommend this machine.
